Tom Dempsey labels Wexford hurler one of the best Wexford hurlers over last 25 years

There was a huge game in Wexford Park yesterday between Wexford and neighbours Kilkenny…

Wexford needed a result against Kilkenny to avoid relegation to the Joe McDonagh Cup.

Multiple Wexford players stood up on the day to ensure Wexford won by two points and wouldn’t be relegated. One Wexford player, in particular, that stood up was Wexford’s captain, Lee Chin.

Speaking to Off The Ball, former Wexford hurler and now pundit Tom Dempsey couldn’t praise Wexford’s captain enough.

“I’ve such an admiration for some of the guys on the pitch. Lee Chin did things today that were almost unimaginable. He was just outstanding. For me, he’s been one of the greatest hurlers we’ve produced over the last 25 or 30 years. He was just outstanding,” Dempsey said.

In a post-match interview, Wexford hurling manager Darragh Egan also echoed Tom Dempsey’s sentiments.

“He literally dived on every ball that came near him,” Egan said.

“He fought and he hurt himself and that’s what leaders and captains do. People need to cut him a bit of slack over the last few weeks. He hasn’t been good and he acknowledges that, but the man had a Grade 2 AC tear about two or three weeks ago and he is only barely coming right for that.

“I would say he will be sore for a week or 10 days now, but I’m sure once the (Faythe) Harriers get going he will be back and ready for action. He was immense there.”
