Listen: Wexford Native Ryan Delaney On His Successful Year With Cork City FC

21-year-old Wexford native Ryan Delaney is quickly moving up in the ranks…

The former New Ross FC player was pivotal to Cork City’s historic League and Cup double success this year. Delaney, who was on-loan from Burton Albion was a rock in defence throughout his successful spell at the club.

“We set a standard for ourselves at the start of the year, and we knew that we would finish it off as strong as possible.”

Asked about if he had any reservations about coming back to play in the League of Ireland so soon after he left for Burton Albion, Delaney said:

“I didn’t think coming back was going to be a bad thing for me. To be honest, I didn’t really worry too much about what people were going to think of me.”

“I just knew, for my development as a player, I had to go out and play competitive football and playing for Cork City, the biggest club in Ireland…it’s an opportunity you can’t turn down.”

A result of his performances means that he will now be re-joining his parent club, Burton Albion, on December 1st.

“The next month for me is to get myself out there and to show how I’ve developed over the year. It’s more of me showing the manager what I’m capable of and what I can bring to the team.”
