There’s A New Rule For The O’Byrne/Walsh Cup And It’s Brilliant

Wexford’s O’Byrne cup campaign gets underway tomorrow as the Wexford Senior Footballers travel to O’Connor Park in Tullamore to face Offaly.

The pre-season competitions provide an effective platform for managers to try out new players, as managers attempt to find their best starting fifteen ahead of the more-important league and championship campaigns.

And now, a new rule has been brought in to help managers find their best fifteen – and it’s a brilliant idea.

Managers will be allowed to use unlimited substitutions throughout the game, within a panel of 26 for all O’Byrne Cup, Walsh Cup and Kehoe Cup games starting tomorrow.

As Wexford newly appointed Paul McLoughlin as manager after ‘Banty’ McEnaney’s departure, this new rule will certainly be beneficial as he prepares for Division 3 of the National League.
