An experimental Wexford side ran riot in Ashford today as they overcame Wicklow by a mammoth 39 points on a scoreline of 1-12 to 6-36.
Davy Fitzgerald will be happy with his side’s performance, especially after a lacklustre display against Carlow mid-week.
New Dublin hurling manager and former Dublin football manager Pat Gilroy also had his sights on a semi-final place of the pre-season competition.
Like Wexford, Dublin also dominated proceedings in Parnell Park, beating Antrim on a scoreline of 4-16 to 0-17, in what was an impressive display by a new-look Dublin side.
As a result, Wexford will now face Dublin in the semi-finals of the Walsh Cup. That game will be held in Parnell Park, next Sunday (Jan 14) at 2pm.
In the other semi-final, Kilkenny will take on Offaly after they comprehensively defeated Kildare today.
In other news, the Wexford Senior footballers famously defeated All-Ireland champions Dublin in St Patricks Park helped by two-late points by Cian McCabe and Barry O’Connor. Despite the result, they failed to qualify for the semi-finals on 2 points, as Offaly drew to Dublin and beat Wexford to accumulate 3 points.
