The All-Ireland Hurling series is back, and while there’s a long way to go yet, one Wexford hurling fan is daring to dream…
All-Ireland Preliminary Quarter-Final:
Wexford vs Westmeath
Carlow vs Limerick
For the sake of this article, let’s say Galway win the Leinster final replay, Wexford defeat Westmeath, and Limerick overcome Carlow in their respective preliminary quarter-finals.
All-Ireland Quarter-Final: (July, 15th/ 16th)
Wexford vs Clare
(Limerick/Carlow vs [Leinster runner-up, Kilkenny/Galway)
Prediction: Limerick vs Kilkenny
If Wexford defeat Westmeath, they’ll compete against Clare in an All-Ireland quarter-final pairing, a game which would likely take place as part of a double-header in Semple Stadium, Thurles in less than two weeks time.
Dream prediction: All-Ireland quarter-final winners — WEXFORD AND LIMERICK advance.
At this stage, Carlow, Kilkenny and Westmeath are out of the All-Ireland series. Not to mention Tipperary, Waterford, Dublin and Offaly who didn’t make it past the round-robin stages.
All-Ireland Semi-Final: (Croke Park, July 28/29th)
If the above predictions are correct, a win against Clare in the All-Ireland quarter-final would see a potential semi-final pairing against either Cork or Galway.
Cork vs Quarter-final winner (Wexford or Limerick, or
Carlow, Westmeath, Kilkenny,)
(Winner of Leinster (Galway) vs Quarter-final winner (Wexford or Limerick,
Carlow, Westmeath, Kilkenny).
Dream prediction for All-Ireland semi-finals:
Cork vs Wexford
Galway vs Limerick
WEXFORD and LIMERICK advance.
All-Ireland Final: (Croke Park, August 19th)
Dare we say it, but a repeat of the 1996 All-Ireland Final could be on the cards.
Wexford vs Limerick
WEXFORD win the All-Ireland!
