This weekend, Wexford will welcome Tipperary to Innovate Wexford Park…
Out of their two matches so far in the Allianz Hurling League, Fitzgerald’s Wexford side have won one and lost one. In the opener, they lost out to All-Ireland champions Limerick by three points, but in the next round, they defeated the Rebels down in Cork.
This weekend’s clash will prove a stern test for Fitzgerald’s men. But, the Wexford manager is fully aware of the difficult task, especially without some of the county’s most valuable players.
“Both Chin and Rory O’Connor are coming back from long term injuries and have little game time…”
“I don’t like throwing players into a game like that for I do not know if they would be up to seventy minutes hurling. I will not make a decision until later in the week,” he said about Chin and O’Connor’s injuries.
On a side-note though, Rory O’Connor did play 79-minutes out of 80 in the Fitzgibbon Cup (college hurling) competition for DCU on Tuesday evening.
“The same goes for Paul Morris”, Fitzgerald continued.
…who has not trained in a little over a week, while Mark Fanning took a knock in training, but Eanna Martin is due some game time.”
“I’m happy with the two performances in the league given we were down so many players. We could have got a result against Limerick, went down to Cork and won. While we are short a number of players it’s an opportunity for other players to step up.
“Look, Tipperary will be coming down seeking the points, so we realise the task ahead of us. It will be difficult but we will be up for the challenge.”
