Former Wexford Footballer To Ride At Punchestown Races Tomorrow

The Punchestown festival is well and truly underway…

Although Ruby might have taken the headlines with his sudden retirement on Wednesday, a former Wexford inter-county footballer will take the reigns on “Flat to the Max” and will be aiming to mimic Ruby’s winning ways in the 6:40 tomorrow.

Former inter-county footballer Redmond Barry will be aboard the Gordon Elliot trained horse, number two, wearing the green and black colours.

On Twitter, Barry highlighted that the most important aspect of tomorrow’s race is not to win big or to raise big; instead, it is to raise awareness and to ignite a conversation about organ donation:

Declarations are in and it’s a little over 24 hours until ‘Part deux’. Most important part of all this is not winning, nor is it the money collected, but getting more people to ‘have the conversation about organ donation’ #thegiftthatkeepsongiving#beadonor

In 2016, Barry took part in a similar race, where he placed second on Gordon Elliot’s 20/1 shot Mr Steadfast.
