Unbeaten Wexford Heavyweight Niall ‘Boom Boom’ Kennedy Given Red Hot Opportunity With Next Fight

Unbeaten Wexford heavyweight Niall Boom Boom Kennedy will be looking forward to this one…

And the good news for Kennedy’s fans, is that it’s only around the corner. On August 17th, Kennedy (13-0-1) faces 2014 USA Olympian Dervin Vargas (20-5, 8KO’s) at MGM Springfield. It’s the co-main event, it will be streamed on UFC Fight Pass and will be a ten-rounder with everything on the line.

Vargas’ last fight was against Ruiz Jr, the man who brought Anthony Joshua to his knees on numerous occasions, and eventually stopped the British heavyweight in the seventh round.

Without doubt, this will be Kennedy’s biggest fight of his career to date, with his promoter Murphy’s Boxing stating that the fight is a “crossroads battle that will put the winner in line for a mjaor opportunity in the red hot division.”

Speaking to The42.ie, Garda Kennedy is under no illusions and fully understands what’s on stake with his upcoming fight:

“We are hoping it will be for a world ranking and my opponent, I believe, is a former Olympian who has mixed with the top table and who I am sure will bring the best out of me. Training is going exceptionally well. I’m going to put every ounce of blood and sweat into making my little boy, MJ, and my wife proud. I am honoured and blessed to have Ken (Casey, of Murphys Boxing) and Packie (Collins, trainer) guiding my career and at 35, this is the year where I want to get myself into the top 20 and into massive fights. And for that to happen I need to perform on 17 August.”
