Wexford Searching For Their First PwC All-Star Award Since 2004

The 2019 PwC All-Star team will be honoured at an event in Dublin this Friday night…

To say the least, 2019 was a memorable year for Wexford hurling.

A Leinster final victory over Kilkenny marked Wexford’s return to hurling’s top-tier, while a narrow defeat to eventual All-Ireland champions Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final was further testament to this.

Wexford’s first taste of Leinster Championship glory since 2004 wouldn’t have been made possible without some incredible and consistent performances.

Though some players should feel hard-done-by, Wexford received a total of eight PwC All-Star hurling nominations for their successful 2019 season, while Model County sharpshooter Rory O’Connor also received a nomination for Young Hurler of the Year.

It’s hard to fathom, but the last time Wexford received an All-Star award was an incredible fifteen years ago in 2004, when Damien Fitzhenry took the number one spot for hurling goalkeeper of the year.

Wexford fans are expecting that record to change on Friday night, with most Wexford fans anticipating that at least two or three Wexford players will return to Slaneyside with PwC All-Star awards.

Wexford’s All-Star nominees:

Backs:
Matt O’Hanlon, Liam Ryan and Paudie Foley

Midfield:
Dee O’Keeffe and Kevin Foley

Forwards:
Rory O’Connor, Conor McDonald and Lee Chin.
