All Of The Domestic Wexford Football Cups Have Now Been Cancelled

Not everyone will be happy with this decision…

The Wexford Football League have now confirmed that all of the domestic Wexford Cups will not be going ahead this year. This is inclusive of the Wexford Cup, Neil O’Sullivan Cup, Billy Browne Cup, Gwyn Jones Cup and the Youths Cup.

The cancellation of the 2020 Cups is due to the Coronavirus greatly impacting the fixture schedule.

Not all is lost though, as the Wexford Soccer Leagues will be recommencing as normal sporting life resumes soon.

Some clubs and players who were going well in the Cup may not be happy with the Wexford Football League’s decision. Some have criticised the decision on social media, highlighting that there’s more of a desire to play the cup fixtures as opposed to the league fixtures, while others noted that the Wexford Cup for example was in the Last 16 stages and that it could have been finished.

Despite this, sometimes it’s easy to forget that these are extraordinary times, and just a few weeks ago, it was looking like no sporting action would be played at all.

The decision has divided opinion in the Wexford Footballing sphere, but we’re all glad that both life and sport is returning to normality.

In other Wexford football news, Enniscorthy Town FC player Kallan Murphy has signed a deal with a football club in England. Seventeen-year-old Murphy will be crossing the pond as he joins Chesterfield FC.
