University Player Of The Year Award For Wexford Camogie Player

Wexford natives were awarded with the Fresher A footballer of the year and the Fresher A hurler of the year awards…

Niall Murphy, a Ferns St-Aidans clubman, received the Freshers A Hurler of the Year award from DCU, while Paraic Hughes of Kilanerin/Ballyfad was awarded the Freshers A Footballer of the year. Alongside that, Eoin Murphy (Ferns St-Aidans) won the Intermediate Hurler of the Year, while Colm Parnell (Ballyhogue) claimed the Fresher C Footballer of the Year award.

As you could guess, the freshers hurler and football tournaments are competed by hurlers and footballers in their first year of college only.

It is not just the males who are showcasing their sporting talent with their university though. Camogie player Leanne Foley was awarded the Purcell Cup Camogie Player of the Year for her university team, DCU.

The Purcell Cup is the second-tier of the University Camogie competitions. DCU noted that Leanne, a Rathnure native and a General Nursing student, played a central role in the university’s games throughout the season.

The news was announced this morning via a Twitter post from DCU where they congratulated the young Wexford man on winning the award.
