Wexford Has One Of The Highest Rates Of Teen Pregnancies In Ireland

New figures released by the Central Statistics Office shows that Wexford has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancies in Ireland…

The statistics show that Longford has the highest rates of teen pregnancies in Ireland. 14 births took place, with a population of 1,255 Longford females under the age of 20. This placed Longford at the top of the table, with 1,116 births per capita (100,000).

Louth had the second highest teenage birth rate in 2019 with 37 babies born in a population of 4,223 women under 20 – a rate of 876 per 100,000.

Next was Wexford with a rate of 854 per 100,000, meaning Wexford had one of the highest rates of teen pregnancies in the Republic of Ireland in 2019, sitting in third-place per-capita.

Wexford was followed by Carlow with 804 per-capita, and then neighbours Waterford with 760 per-capita.

As per the Central Statistics Office, a total of 864 teenagers had babies in 2019, of these 21 were aged under 16.
