No Tickets Will Be On Sale For First Round Of Wexford Hurling Championship

The first round of the Wexford Senior Hurling championship will take place on July 17th…

Up until July 20th, only 200 people are allowed to attend an outdoor gathering. On July 20th, Ireland enters the next phase of the easing of the restrictions, and then 500 people will be permitted to attend outdoor events.

As the first round of the Wexford Senior Hurling championship takes place on July 17th, three days before the country enters the next phase, it will impact and really limit the attendance at the opening round of games.

Wexford GAA are seeking clarification on the matter relating to attendances at games from GAA HQ and are hoping that the county will be given some lee-way to increase the attendance on July 17th.

In an email issued to clubs this evening, Wexford GAA noted that Wexford has the second lowest amount of Coronavirus cases per-capita in the country and it is hoped that this would be considered by Croke Park.

Wexford highlighted in the letter that with the current restrictions still in place, it is expected that there will be no tickets on sale for Round 1 of the Wexford Senior hurling championship:

“Under the current attendance restrictions, it is not expected that any tickets will be available for general sale for Round 1 matches. However, should an increased attendance be allowed (for instance by permitting the 500 capacity limit due to start on 20 July to commence on 17 July) this matter will be reviewed,” an extract read.

Wexford GAA are adamant that social distancing can take place, and that areas of the grounds can be blocked off from each other too in their efforts to contain a potential spread of the virus.

Another Wexford GAA management meeting will be held on Monday 13th July and the clubs and supporters will be addressed again once clarification has been sought from the GAA Headquarters.

Meanwhile, the bookies have weighed in on the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship and they have released their odds for the outright winner.
