Wexford Golfer Crowned Mullingar Scratch Champion

A Wexford native walked away with silverware yesterday…

Jason ‘Jay’ Rackard, a native of Enniscorthy in Wexford, was crowed with the Mullingar Scratch trophy yesterday evening.

In his first three holes, Rackard hit three birdies. In the end, 31-year-old Rackard sat on the top of the leaderboard, finishing with a cracking score of -10.

James Sugrue, the Amateur Champion, finished the tournament in third place on -6, while Robert Moran finished in second place, with a score of -8.

“I’m absolutely buzzing, I can’t believe it. I probably played the best round of golf in my life this morning, then I started off a little bit cagey this  afternoon I was two-over through nine and Rob (Moran) got close to me and it gave me a little bit of a boot. I put the head down and made birdie on 12. I hit  a great 6 iron into six feet and holed the putt,” Rackard said.

The Mullingar Scratch Trophy is run by GUI Leinster Golf in association with Mullingar Golf Club.
