Covid-19 Cluster Confirmed In Wexford’s Gorey Community School

A Covid-19 outbreak has been confirmed in Gorey Community School…

Wexford Weekly can confirm that eleven students have tested positive for Covid-19 in Wexford’s — and one of Ireland’s — biggest schools, Gorey Community School.

Along with the eleven students, the school confirmed that an additional three teachers had also tested positive for Covid-19.

The cluster in Gorey Community School aligns with a growing number of confirmed cases in the Gorey Electoral area recently, which is now considered a hotspot with one of the highest infections rate in the country for the previous two weeks.

In Covid-19 terms, a cluster is defined “as an outbreak with two or more cases”, as per the HSPC.

As per the HSE evaluation, close contacts have been identified in the school and have been notified. An email from the school’s principal, seen by Wexford Weekly, tells students deemed close contacts to restrict their movements and to obtain advice from the HSE.

Meanwhile, Creagh College in Gorey have also confirmed a case of Covid-19, while Tara Hill NS and Bunclody Vocational School also recently confirmed cases.

Speedy recovery to all affected.
