It’s welcome news that talks for a university in Wexford are now at an ‘advanced stage’…
Sinn Fein’s Cllr Tom Forde delivered the welcomed news today:
“It was great to hear the President of CIT Dr Patricia Mulcahy and her colleagues speak to Wexford County Council today. Dr Mulcahy confirmed that discussions about the site identified for a new Wexford campus is at an advanced stage of the approval process,” he said.
“It is a 10,000 square metre site in the Wexford District. If it is approved by the relevant bodies, they will engage with the owner of the site and again with Wexford County Council. Representatives of Carlow made it very clear that they are committed to Wexford as they always have been over their 25 years here.”
“Having a University campus on our doorstep will attract investment, jobs and relieve the financial strain placed on some who rely on accommodation in bigger towns and cities. I’m sure all councillors and TDs will do all they can to push for the huge investment that will be needed to make this a reality,” Forde concluded.
No doubt, a university in Wexford would be brilliant for the county. Recent figures from the Higher Education Authority highlighted that Wexford people travel the furthest to college.
