The reality of a South East Technological University is now closer than ever..
As per a report in the Irish Independent today, a “technological university in the south east took a step closer today as the governing body of Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) approved the application for designation as a new-style higher education institution.”
The South East Technological University would be a merger of popular local institutes Carlow IT and Waterford IT.
This new development is great news for Wexford as the South East Technological University concept is part of a wider plan which includes the development of a campus on a site in Wexford, which would also be a part of the Technological University.
It would be great for future students of Wexford and indeed, for the development of the county. In March 2021, a report from the Higher Education Authority highlighted that Wexford students are some of the most disadvantaged university students as they travel the furthest distance to attend further education
