Bookies Release Their Odds For Wexford Senior Football Final

After some unexpected results in the previous rounds, we now know the two teams who will compete in the upcoming Wexford Senior Football final…

The highly-anticipated Wexford Senior Football final will take place this weekend, Sunday November 14th, at 2pm, in Chadwicks Wexford Park.

The two teams that will be competing this year are Gusserane O’Rahillys and Shelmaliers, two teams who previously met in the group stages of the 2021 Wexford Senior Football Championship.

The Shelmaliers enter the betting for the final as strong favourites. They are tipped by the leading Irish bookmakers such as Boylesports and Betway Sports at 4/7. Their opponents go into the clash with the tag of the underdogs, and can be secured at a price of 15/8.

For those that believe this encounter will be a close one, a draw is priced at 13/2.

Gusserane O’Rahillys will enter the game after they defeated the heavily-tipped St Martins in the Senior Football semi-final in a low-scoring affair on a score line of 1-08 to 1-05. Their opponents, the Shelmaliers, had a convincing win over HWH Bunclody in the other semi-final winning on a score line of 3-08 to 0-08.

Notably, both teams have claimed the Wexford Senior Football title in recent times too, so they know what it takes to get over the line.

Gusserane O’Rahillys were last victorious in the Wexford Senior Football final in 2016, and on the other side, the Shelmaliers claimed silverware as recently as 2018.

Our Wexford Weekly columnist, Aidan Delaney, recently previewed the Wexford Senior Football final, along with some of the other important games which are taking place this weekend. Throughout this column, he goes through some of the player profiles, who we should look out for, and who he’s tipping for the title.

Delaney noted that even though he may be tipping the Shelmaliers to win the game, he expects it to be a high-scoring and a tight affair:

“The Shelmaliers came out on top 1-18 to 2-11 when these sides opened their campaigns last month and that has to give them the edge. A lot of ball has been played since then and they look calmer and more confident in the 4 games since. Gusserane O’Rahillys have shown that they can break hearts when it counts, and if they stay in touch with 10 to go, they’re in with a great shout,” Delaney said in his Wexford Weekly column.

“It’s sure to be a high scoring game with quality on show from both sides. I’m tipping the Shelmaliers to come through in a thriller,” he continued.

Although the major Irish bookmakers like BoyleSports and Betway Sports may not be predicting a close encounter in the final, it’s worth noting that the bookies have been wrong before too.

Make sure to keep a close eye on Wexford Weekly as the final comes closer. We’ll have the team-sheets on the day and we’ll be listening out for potential injuries and positional changes.
