Serious Number Of Wexford Representatives Faced Each Other In Fitzgibbon Clash This Evening

There’s a serious number of Wexford natives featuring in this evening’s clash between IT Carlow and DCU...

Round 3 of the Fitzgibbon Cup, which is the college’s hurling competition, took place this evening at the DCU Sports Grounds.

DCU played host to IT Carlow.

For DCU, Wexford’s Niall Murphy played corner-back, Eoin Murphy (Ferns) was named midfield, and both Ross Banville (Shels) and Rory O’Connor (St Martins) were named as the two corner forwards.

For IT Carlow, Rathnure’s Aidan Redmond started corner-back while Jack Roche (Oulart) started in the wing-back position. Wexford Senior hurler, Cathal Dunbar, lined out midfield.

In attack, the Oylegate clubman Seamus Casey lined out in the wing-forward position and he was joined by another Wexford representative, Rory Higgins, who started corner forward.

Several Wexford representatives also made up the sub bench of the DJ Carey managed IT Carlow team, including Jack Cushe (Naomh Eanna) and Paudie Casey (Oylegate).

The Wexford and Faythe Harriers duo of Richie Lawlor and Conall Clancy were named on the subs bench for the hosts.

Highlights of the game can be viewed here:

The sides could not be separated at the full-time, with DCU scoring 2-13 while IT Carlow scored 3-10. IT Carlow will leave bitterly disappointed, as they were winning for most of the game, including winning by six points with less than ten minutes to go.

With the number of players from Wexford playing at this level, it can only be good for the future of Wexford hurling.
