57-Year-Old Wexford Man Aiming To Swim Across The English Channel

A Wexford-man is about to embark on a swim across the English channel to raise vital funds for charity

Mark Cokes Colclough, who hails from Ballymoney, Co. Wexford, is swimming the English Channel to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Ataxia Foundation Ireland.

Mark is better known for his singing ability than his swimming, but he will put his lung capacity to good use when swimming the channel.

The North Wexford man will be attempting to complete the 33 km swim across the channel.

The swim will take place this week. His training is well and truly underway and he stated to Beat 102-103 that he has been in training for this for years.

Less than 2,000 people have swum across the English channel. Should Mark prevail in his attempt, he would make history and he would become the oldest Irish man to swim the English channel.

By doing the swim, he will also be raising money for the Ataxia Foundation.

Ataxia is a term for a group of disorders that affect coordination, balance and speech. Any part of the body can be affected, but people with ataxia often have difficulties with: balance and walking. speaking. swallowing.

Those interested in donating to the fundraiser can fill out the online form here and then make an online donation.
