Wexford Teacher Preforms Against The World’s Best In Cycling World Cup

A Wexford secondary school teacher took part in the Cycling World Cup over the weekend…

The UCI Cyclocross World Cup took place at the Sports Ireland Campus in Abbotstown, Dublin.

Richard Barry is a member of St. Finbarr’s Cycling Club in Cork, but he has been teaching at Good Counsel College, a secondary school in New Ross.

Against the best in the world, Richard finished in 34th position. Belgian Wout Van Aert won the competition which took place in freezing cold conditions.

Speaking after the race, Richard said:

“What a day. It will take a while to sink in. It’s just class,” Richard said.

Another person that was overjoyed by the result was the school Deputy Principal, Aidan O’Brien – not to be confused with Aidan O’Brien the horse-trainer and former pupil of GCC – who stated that:

“Might be from Cork but we claim his as a Good Counsel, New Ross man. Fair play, Richard” said Aidan O’Brien.
