Wexford Football Referee Selected To Be Assistant Referee At Upcoming Women’s World Cup

A Wexford native will be attending this year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup…

Irish football referee Michelle O’Neill has been included on the list of assistant match officials for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

O’Neill, who is from Enniscorthy in Wexford, is the only Irish match official selected for the tournament.

Her selection for the upcoming World Cup marks her third time being selected to be an assistant referee, having also been an assistant in 2015 and in 2019 where she assisted the World Cup final between the USA and Holland in Lyon.

The 2023 Fifa World Cup Women’s tournament will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The Republic of Ireland national team will feature on the opening day and it will kick off on 20 July.
