Gorey RFC Man Given The Nod At Loosehead For Ireland Rugby U-20’s

Former Gorey Rugby Club underage player George Hadden has been handed a starting berth on Ireland U-20’s team to face Wales U-20’s in Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay on the North Wales Coast and fabulous purpose built stadium specifically for U-20’s international rugby…

It is the opening round of the U-20’s fixture and promises to be a cracker. George packs down in the scrum, in the loosehead prop position of the front row.

While not as crucial as the tighthead prop position, loosehead is still an incredibly important role come scrum time.

Loose-head’s who end up getting the better of their tight-head opposition in a hefty shunt can alongside their own tight-head really destroy an opposition team.

This is why it ‘”loosey’s” are very much highly valued.

Scrum penalties can turn a game especially if a ref discovers that one team is overpowering the opposition in this facet. Added to this lineout lifting and getting the differing calls correct is obviously critical in the modern game as first phase moves can prove devastating.

Hadden seems from viewing to be the ultra modern day No.1 as he is very mobile around the park, a ferocious wrecking ball in attack, grizzled in defence and highly skillful.

The team announcement and news that George got the no.1 shirt for Ireland U-20’s brought great pride and happiness to his family, friends and all his former teammates, coaches and friends in Gorey Rugby Football club.

It is a great honour to represent your country and this is an incredible opportunity and experience for the young man. We wish him a great game.

The game is scheduled as live on Virgin Media Two on this Friday, 3rd Feb, with a kick off time of 7pm.
