Two Wexford Women Included In Ireland Women’s Six Nations Squad For 2023 Campaign

Guns Aoife Wafer of Ballygarrett and Natasja Behan of Kilanerin have been included in Ireland Women’s Six Nations Squad for the 2023 campaign….

The call ups will come as no surprise to those in the Wexford rugby community as the girl’s have shone in recent times for Clubs underage in Enniscorthy and Gorey and at senior level with Blackrock in Dublin and now for their country.

At merely 19 years of age, Aoife was involved last year as a replacement in the last game of the series against Italy and put in a stirring performance in the backrow.

I believe it’s at no.6 that Wafer seems most comfortable with her great technical and also bruising prowess at tackling, her quickness in support, her fantastic steals at defensive ruck time leading to offensive counter-attacks or relieving penalties allied with her height as a lineout option that makes her a very modern no.6. This vast skillset has rewarded her with some game time and also places in two Irish Six Nations squads in a row now.

Natasja has earned herself two Ireland caps. She took part in an international summer series and earlier in the Women’s Six Nations of 2022 scoring a try in the process. Natasja has also gained great experience on the International Women’s 7’s circuit again in try-scoring mode.

Behan plays in the backs, predominantly as an exciting full-back where no doubt her skills on the Gaelic football field of Kilanerin have been put the good use. Her metrage gains are very good and carry count high. She is certainly one to watch this season.

The Irish girls kick off their Six Nations campaign away to Wales in the Cardiff Arms Park Stadium on Saturday March 25th at 2.15pm, a game that should hopefully be on RTE.

We wish these two young Wexford women all the very best in helping the Ireland Women’s team in their tilt at a Six Nations title.
