Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford Senior hurling team have defeated Brian Cody’s Kilkenny in horrid conditions at Innovate Wexford Park.
Matthew O’Hanlon won the toss and opted to play against the snowy, windy conditions in the first half. Wexford went in at the break five-points down (0-08 – 1-10), but the Model County knew the game was there for the taking.
In the second-half, Wexford dominated proceedings, with the Cats finding it difficult to fire the ball up the pitch due to the freezing weather conditions; this was represented by Kilkenny’s second-half scores, where they could only manage two points.
The conditions, however, were the same for both sides and they should not undermine Wexford’s dominant performance. Davy Fitzgerald and The Yellowbellies are now through to the League Quarter-final, where they will meet Galway in Pearse Stadium next weekend.
