Less than 24 hours after the reports emerged however, Davy Fitzgerald was backed into favourite to take over the vacant Galway hurling managerial job.

A gamble on Fitzgerald made him go from 16/1 outsider to 2/1 favourite with many of the leading Irish bookmakers such as PaddyPower and Boylesports.

At the time of writing though, Fitzgerald is priced at 6/1 to take on the Galway managerial job, which is a good sign for Wexford followers hoping to see the Banner man walk the sidelines in the Purple and Gold for another campaign,

Speculation will continue to mount as Wexford folk wait patiently for official confirmation from Wexford GAA. It is expected that Fitzgerald will be ratified as Wexford Senior Hurling manager alongside new Wexford football manager Paul Galvin at a press conference which is due to be held soon, in early September.
