Bookies Have Ferns As Favourites For Wexford Senior Hurling Title

The Wexford Senior Hurling Championship is the gift that keeps on giving…

In the semi-finals which took place last weekend, Naomh Eanna of Gorey took on St Martins, while the Rapparees were against Ferns St-Aidans in the other.

Interestingly, it was the two underdogs from the semi-finals that came out victorious last weekend at Chadwicks Wexford Park. Ahead of the semi-finals, Naomh Eanna were 5/4 to win the title, Rapps were 9/4, the Martins were 4/1, while Ferns were 9/2.

The major bookies including PaddyPower and Boylesports have since released their odds on who they think will get their hands on the Wexford Senior hurling title for 2022.

Ferns 8/11

Draw 8/1

St Martins 11/8

One reason for St Martins’ tag as underdogs may be due to the fact that they will likely be without the three O’Connors for their game; Joe is travelling, while both Rory and Jack O’Connor are carrying injuries.

The last time Ferns competed in the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship final was back in 2013 when they lost to Oulart-The Ballagh in the decider. They’ll be hoping to make club history when they take on St Martins this weekend as they aim to get their hands on the title for the first time.

St Martins, on the other hand, are no strangers to success. In more recent times, they won the Wexford Senior Hurling title in 2017 and then again in 2019. Although they’ll be without some of their star players, they will not be worried about the underdogs’ tag, especially after beating favourites St Annes and Naomh Eanna in their previous two games.

The 2022 Wexford Senior hurling championship has been one filled with drama. Wexford Weekly columnist, Darragh Sinnott, recently reflected on the championship to date.
