Watch: Wexford Hurling Hero With Brilliant Rendition Of ‘The Galway Shawl’

It’s not often that an event from a pub makes it onto Wexford Weekly twice in one week…

First, it was three Maori’s doing the haka in Frenches pub of Gorey, and now, it’s Wexford hurling hero, Billy Byrne, singing ‘The Galway Shawl’ by The Dubliners.

Billy sang the second half of the song. The band, Green Road, who were playing their instruments alongside Billy in the Gorey pub stated that he came on as a substitute to sing it right until the end.

Throughout his song, rings of ‘Up Wexford’ could also be heard for the Gorey gent.

It’s not the first time that the Wexford legend has sang a rendition of the song either. Back in 1996, the Naomh Eanna club man sang the song on stage at the 1996 homecoming after winning the All-Ireland Senior hurling championship with Wexford.
