16-Year Old Wexford Jockey Wins His First Race After Gaining License

A young Wexford jockey won his first race at the tender age of just 16…

Stone-Walsh had had his first ride at Gowran after he received his racing licence May, but ‘Malaysian’ provided Wexford native Conor Stone-Walsh with his breakthrough success at Dundalk’s racecourse.

The 9/2 tipped horse won by just a nose on the evening in the 6:30 race entitled ‘Story Of Dundalk Stadium Book Buy Online Apprentice Handicap’.

Speaking after the race to Racing TV, Stone-Walsh said that “i’m delighted now, I can’t believe it.”

He is is based with Joseph O’Brien and in the interview, he stated that he is with them every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Later this year, the young Wexford native is to sit his Leaving Certificate.

Stone-Walsh will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of some of the great Wexford jockeys that have gone before him.
