Oiche Speisialta ag Pop up Gaeltacht in Kiltealy

An incredible night was had in the Bowe’s (The Thatch) pub in Kiltealy when a second pop-up Gaeltacht was held on Friday….

Following on from the great success of the first night, the attending crowd in the latest edition of Oiche as Gaeilge more than doubled in size to an enthusiastic group of more than 30 people.

It was really heart-warming to see those who had a very high level of Irish to show much encouragement agus focal nua to those who were re-connecting with our native language. No doubt the same as myself, these people just felt so delighted to string sentences together and engage in interesting conversation with those beside them.

It is incredible to get a laugh out of someone in Irish, especially as you’ve had to put in the effort of getting it right!

Those in attendance did really help by bringing prompts to initiate conversations.

Still, most chats were about local Wexford issues, like sports, developments in local towns and local walks etcetera and lots of national countrywide topics too. It was a very entertaining night shown by the fact many people had gathered before the 8pm start and continued chatting away after the official end of 9.30pm.

It was just a case of people really enjoying the night, enjoying using our unique language and enjoying the craic of each other’s company in Irish. The night was brought to a close with some lovely Irish tunes for the audience.

I would very much encourage anybody thinking of getting back the Gra for Irish or interested in the language to get up to Cill Teile suas na Sleibthe Straighri Dubha on the last Friday of March at 8pm.

It will be a really great night in this beautiful cosy pub to experience your language in this most natural of social settings and have the Craic As Gaeilge.
