Wexford Football League Premier Division Player of the Year Revealed

The Wexford Football League Player of the Year awards took place last night…

An award ceremony took place at the Riverbank House Hotel in Wexford town.

There were many player of the year awards up for grabs, with nominees revealed two weeks ago.

As expected, there was a lot of attention on the Wexford Football League Premier Division Player of the Year. The nominations for this award were Seamus Casey, Paul Murphy, and Dermot Flood.

It was Gorey Rangers club man, Paul Murphy, who was revealed as the Premier Division Player of the Year.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, he expressed his disappointment last weekend after losing the FAI Junior Cup final to Trim Celtic.

“Yeah, that’s the way it goes. That’s sport. Someone has to win, and someone has to lose. We had some craic when we got home anyway. We celebrated as good as anyone. All we were missing was a cup; hopefully next week, we’ll have a cup to celebrate,” he said.

Paul’s club, Gorey Rangers, also expressed their delight. Not only did Paul win the Premier award, but Joe Bolger won the Division 2 award.

“A great night at the Wexford League end of season awards and for Paul Murphy and Joe Bolger in particular, Paul picking up the Premier Division Player of the Year Award and Joe who got Division 2 Player of the Year. Well done lads,” they said.

Gorey Rangers will play Moyne Rangers on Sunday. A win could see them play North End United in a play-off for the Wexford Football League Premier Division title.
