Date, time and venue confirmed for Gorey Rangers vs Cockhill Celtic FAI Junior Cup final

There’s a lot of excitement building in Gorey town ahead of the FAI Junior Cup final…

It’s the first time in the club’s history that they have made it to the final. Now, they are just 90 minutes away from achieving All-Ireland national glory.

Originally, there were talks that the game would be held in Athlone. However, the FAI have now confirmed the venue to both clubs – and it will be played in Galway instead.

The FAI have since confirmed details for the FAI Junior Cup final between Gorey Rangers and Cockhill Celtic.

The match will kick off at 2pm on Sunday May 5th.

It will be played in Eamonn Deacy Park in Galway.

The admission fee is €10 for adults, while u-16’s are given free entry.

Gorey Rangers bowed out of last year’s FAI Junior Cup in the semi-final stages, but they are now just 90 minutes away from glory. Gorey Rangers are the reigning Wexford Premier Division Champions, a feat that they achieved for the first time in their club’s history last season. This season, they’ve continued to impress – but they are not finished yet.

They will be hoping to achieve the same success as the North End team of 2018, who were crowned FAI Junior Cup champions at the Aviva Stadium following penalties. A Wexford side has not won the FAI Junior Cup since North End’s heroics back then. In contrast, no Donegal club side has won the  FAI Junior Cup since Finn Harps in 1968.

Cockhill Celtic, who hail from Donegal, will enter the game as favourites after impressing throughout the campaign. In the eyes of the bookies, Cockhill Celtic are 1/3 to win the game, while Gorey Rangers are priced at 23/10. But Gorey Rangers have done quite well with the tag of underdogs in their previous games and they won’t care too much about that either.

Cockhill Celtic defeated an impressive Pike Rovers side 1-0 in Limerick in their semi-final of the FAI Junior Cup. Meanwhile, last season, Cockhill Celtic lost a penalty shoot-out in the final of the FAI Intermediate Cup against Rockmount from Cork.
