Rory O’Connor says that Wexford hurlers now need to find consistency after Galway result

The Wexford Senior hurling team defeated Galway in Chadwicks Wexford Park on Saturday afternoon…

It was an excellent win for the Model County, who have now revived their Championship hopes with away games against Carlow and Kilkenny still to come in their final two matches. One of the stand-out players for Wexford was Rory O’Connor who finished with a personal tally of 1-06 from play before claiming the Man of the Match award.

“It’s tough to explain. It was a tough week. We knuckled down after Antrim’s deserved win last Saturday. We knew our backs were against the wall. It was a proper championship game and we had to win it. It’s a pity. We have to look and figure it out why it only comes out of us when our backs are against the walls. We’re trying to find that consistency. There’s 36 or 37 lads in the squad and then the backroom team, we really believed in ourselves. We had doubters today, but hopefully we answered a few questions. But, there’s still another two games in this championship. And they are do-or-die for us to see if we progress,” O’Connor said to GAAGo directly after the game at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

Speaking after the game to GAAGo, Wexford star and Man of the Match, Rory O’Connor, joked that he wouldn’t like to be a Wexford hurling supporter.

“I wouldn’t like to be a supporter of Wexford hurling. We gave ourselves another chance. That’s all we’ve done. By no means are we guaranteed everything. We’ve a week off, then we’ve Carlow and that’s the only game we’re looking forward to,” O’Connor said.

Wexford vs Galway highlights:

To Wexford’s delight, Wexford will have two weeks to recover before their next clash. Their next clash takes place in Dr Cullen Park against Carlow, a team that will fighting with tooth and nail to ensure they secure their Liam McCarthy status for next year.
