Two Wexford jockey claimed their first win of the Cheltenham festival on Wednesday afternoon…
Wexford jockey, Sean O’Keeffe, claimed his first win of the Cheltenham festival for 2025.
The Taghmon native was on board of Lucky Watson for trainer Willie Mullins.
He won the 14:00 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase which is a Grade 1 race.
Lucky Watson ran off at 20/1. Ballyburn, with Paul Townend on board, was the 4/7 favourite, but he didn’t run well at all.
O’Keeffe has one more race today – and he’s on board of No 4 Sandor Clegane in the 2:40, which is trained by Wexford trainer, Paul Nolan. He will also be coming up against another Wexford jockey, Jordan Gainford, in that same race, as he rides Samui.
Later on that same day, on Cheltenham Day 2, another Wexford jockey won on the big stage. Wexford jockey, Sean Flanagan, won on board of Marine Nationale.

On Day 1 of the Cheltenham festival, another Wexford jockey – Conor Stone Walsh – was close in the pecking order, but he didn’t get the win. Walsh came in second place on board of Robbies Rock in the Hallgarten And Novum Wines Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.
