The preliminary quarter-finals took place over the weekend…
In two weeks time, the quarter-final stages of the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship will take place, scheduled for the weekend of Friday 26 to Sunday 28 September. A draw for the quarter-finals took place in Wexford Park following Sunday’s games.
For the Shelmaliers and the Rapparees, their championship hopes for 2025 have concluded after they were defeated in the preliminary stages by Ferns and Naomh Eanna respectively.
Meanwhile, Oulart The Ballagh defeated the 2023 Wexford SHC finalists, Oylegate-Glenbrien, to march on into the quarter-final stages, placing Oylegate in a dreaded relegation final for 2025. In the relegation final, Oylegate will take on Crossabeg/Ballymurn after Glynn-Barntown emerged victorious in the preliminary quarter-final stages.
There’s no doubt that both Rathnure and St Martins are the teams of the championship to date, having won all their group game matches. They did not play this weekend, and with another two weeks to go until their quarter-final, it means their next clash after the group stages would be a three-week wait. While some could argue that this could be beneficial, others would argue against this – and would prefer them to continue hurling regularly, especially when they are in flying-form.
