Wexford woman captains Waterford to Shield final win

It was a proud moment for Wexford sport this week…

Young Wexford woman and Crossabeg native Clíona Kearney captained Waterford FC’s U19 women’s side to victory in the EA Sports LOI U19 Shield Final against Dundalk FC on Monday, October 27th.

Clíona, who began her football journey with Curracloe United, made the move to the League of Ireland at just 15 years old, signing with Waterford FC. Her dedication and leadership have now culminated in lifting silverware as team captain.

Away from the pitch, Clíona continues to excel. She was awarded a soccer scholarship with Maynooth University in 2024, where she is currently in her second year studying International Business.

A fantastic achievement for a talented young player flying the flag for both Waterford and Wexford.
