Five Wexford Natives Help Guide DCU Past University Of Limerick In Fitzgibbon Cup

Once again, Wexford are well represented in the Fitzgibbon Cup…

DCU has established itself as a hive for Wexford hurling talent in recent years. And this year, a similar trend continues.

Five Wexford natives featured on the DCU team that defeated a University of Limerick team with players of the calibre of Ronan Lynch, Kyle Hayes and Tipperary’s Jack Shelley.

Crossabeg-Ballymurn club-man, Oisin Foley, a younger brother of Wexford wing-back Paudie Foley played in goal for the DCU outfit.

Out the field, Damien Reck and Conor Firman made up an all-Wexford outfit, while in attack Rory O’Connor played at centre-forward, with Shelmaliers cub man Conor Hearne playing at corner-forward.

Reck, Firman and O’Connor hit 0-1 apiece in their 0-21 to 0-18 win over UL.

Meanwhile, Cathal Dunbar scored 1-04 for his college IT Carlow today, while his Naomh Eanna club-man Charlie McGuckin rattled the net twice for UCD.

Other Wexford represenatives who featured in that high-scoring game were Oylegate’s Shane Reck, who played at corner back for IT Carlow and Ferns clubman Conor Scallan, who came on as a half-time substitute for UCD, and Rathnure’s Rory Higgins who came on as a late substitue for IT Carlow.
