The New Wexford U-20 Hurling Manager Is A Logical Appointment

In fairness, Wexford GAA have got this one right…

At the Wexford GAA’s Management Meeting which took place at Wexford Park on 13 January, Wexford proposed that James Sheil will take charge of the Wexford u-20 hurlers for the upcoming season.

Sheil, who is a St Mary’s Rosslare club-man, guided the Wexford hurlers to success in the Leinster Minor hurling championship last season.

The St Mary’s clubman is set to replace departing MJ Reck in the role.

Sheil was only appointed manager of the Wexford minor team in 2018, so the Leinster Championship successes of 2019 came relatively early into the role. That success, was Wexford’s first piece of silverware in the competition since 1985.

The appointment of Sheil is one that makes sense, as he will have clear knowledge of the players coming through the ranks.

His backroom team is yet to be confirmed. One could assume that some of his minor backroom team could follow him into the role.

Those involved with the minor set-ups include John Conran (Rathnure), Eddie Cullen (Ferns St-Aidans) and Liam Roche (Geraldine O Hanrahans).
