Search For An U-20 Wexford Hurling Manager Has Commenced

A Wexford GAA County Board meeting took place last night…

During the meeting, Darragh Egan was ratified as Wexford Senior hurling manager.

Meanwhile, it had emerged that a search has “commenced” for an u-20 hurling manager.

James Sheil guided Wexford to Leinster minor hurling championship glory in 2019. It was a day that will live long in the memories of Wexford fans; the Wexford Senior hurlers would follow the Leinster minor win up with a win of their own against Kilkenny.

Sheil took over the Wexford u-20 team in 2020 and it was publicly lauded as the correct choice at the time, given his recent success and the fact that some of his minor hurling panel would be making the jump to the u-20 grade.

At the Wexford GAA County Board meeting last night, it was confirmed that “the process to appoint an U20 Hurling Manager will also commence.”

It follows a disappointing year for the Wexford u-20 hurlers, who unexpectedly lost out to Kildare in Newbridge in the second round of the 2021 Bord Gáis Leinster U20 Hurling championship.

Meanwhile, in other Wexford GAA related news, former Wexford footballer David Murphy will continue in his role as Wexford u-20 football manager, while a subcommittee of John Kenny, Tom Cousins, Aideen Howlin and Ray Harris have been appointed to bring forward proposals respect of management teams for the Minor Hurling and Football by the end of September.
