John Meyler Shares Story About The Time He Spent A Day With Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp

Former Wexford, Cork, and Kerry Senior hurling manager John Meyler was speaking on The Hurling Podcast recently…

He was speaking ahead of Wexford’s preliminary All-Ireland quarter-final with Kerry which takes place this weekend.

Speaking on the podcast, Wexford native John Meyler revealed that he spent a day with legendary Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.

Meyler told a story about how he spent a day with Klopp in Glasgow’s Celtic Park.

“I spent a day with Jurgen Klopp in Celtic Park. My young fella (David Meyler) got me a present. I spent the day with Klopp talking about hurling and talking about soccer.”

“I said to him, ‘Jurgen, how many Liverpool fellas have you got?’. He said ‘I’ve got Trent (Alexander Arnold). Trent is from Liverpool.’ He has no other Liverpool players. I said ‘I can’t do that’. And he said ‘what do you mean?’. I said, ‘I have to take what I have, and you have what you have, and that’s it'”

On the podcast, Meyler was highlighting how Kerry only has a set number of clubs to choose from in hurling. In turn, it would have ignited a conversation about the world of GAA and how club and county teams work which would have no doubt been interesting for Jurgen Klopp.

It’s safe to say we would have liked to have been a fly on the wall during this conversation between Meyler and Klopp.
