Four Wexford Senior Hurling Stars Set To Depart For Australia

It’s not the news that Wexford hurling fans wanted to read…

Four members of the Wexford Senior hurling panel are set to depart for Australia.

According to a report in this week’s Wexford People, Wexford will be without wing-back Paudie Foley for the year after he has decided to take a career break from teaching in Gorey.

Another Foley – joint captain Kevin Foley and a teacher in Enniscorthy – has also decided to take a career break and will depart for Australia.

Not just that, but brothers Damien and Shane Reck will set their sights on Australia too, as per the report in this week’s Wexford People.

Damien Reck was arguably Wexford’s best defender last year, slotting into the centre-back position and being a model of consistency in every game. Shane was out for most of the year with injury, but his ability was on show after he was tasked with man-marking Clare talisman Tony Kelly in the qualifiers in his first game back in the Purple and Gold.

There is no clear timeframe on when Kevin, Shane, or Damien will return from their travels.

The news of the travelling players comes as a massive blow to Darragh Egan’s plans with the Wexford Senior hurling team.

One thing as fans we must consider though is that these are more than just players; they are people with hopes and dreams and if they want to travel, that’s what they should do and no one would begrudge them of it either.

With Covid-19 taking a dent of almost two years off many people’s plans, it is no surprise to see this thirst for travelling once again.
