Wexford Get Walkover From Louth In Third Round Of O’Byrne Cup

The Wexford Senior Footballers started their new campaign against Kildare…

The Wexford Senior Footballers then lost out to Westmeath in Round 2.

They lost out on a score-line of 0-11-1-18 to Kildare in the opening round. In the third round, Wexford were due to play Louth at home on Wed Jan 11th, Hollymount, 8pm.

However, RTÉ has reported that Louth have since pulled out of the game and will no longer be fulfilling the fixture.

They have given John Hegarty’s side the walkover for the game.

They did not give a reason, but one could understand that it’s a mid-week fixture and they may not have been able to commit to it due to the unavailability of players.

The Wexford footballers were willing to play the game as they prepare for the National Football League. Wexford will now receive the points from Louth. Although Wexford will receive the points, they will not continue on into the next round to face Dublin, as they will not top the group.

The match between Westmeath and Kildare has also been canceled, as Kildare cannot fill a team for the competition.
