Former Wexford hurler Rory Jacob shares his prediction for Wexford SHC County Final

There’s a lot of excitement building as the Wexford County final day approaches…

The Wexford SHC final will take place this weekend between Naomh Eanna and Oylegate-Glenbrien.

In the lead-up to the Wexford SHC County Final, both Garry Doran and Ben Bernie of The Wexford Hurling Podcast sat down with Rory Jacob and James Tonks to preview the game.

Former Wexford hurler, Rory Jacob, shared his prediction for the final:

“If you look at the game, they are even enough teams in a lot of ways. First of all, the things from a Gorey perspective s that they’ve experienced playing in County Finals which is important. A lot of those have played in 2018 and 2020, so they’re not going to be giddy and excited – they’re going to be focused and tuned in.”

“From Oylegate’s perspective, it’s completely new to them. They’ll have no time to get caught up with it and get excited about it. If Oylegate can play the game rather than the occasion, they’re probably going to be there within a shout.”

“But I think I’m going to go for Gorey. I think Gorey have McGuckin wingback, Molloy centre-back, Jack Cullen, Aodhan Doyle, Cathal Dunbar, and Conor McDonald. They have six or seven big players that can get them over the line. It’ll be close. I wouldn’t think it’ll be more than a 3 or 4-point game. It’ll come down to who plays most as a team,” Jacob said.

While Jacob tipped Naomh Eanna to win, James Tonks “fancies Oylegate to pip them.”

Naomh Eanna will enter the game as 1/2 favourites, while Oylegate-Glenbrien are priced at 2/1 to win the game at most Irish bookmakers. The match will also be broadcasted live on Television, for those not attending the game.
