Betting odds released for Wexford Senior hurling championship final

There’s a lot of excitement building as the Wexford County final day approaches…

This year, both Naomh Eanna of Gorey and Oylegate-Glenbrien will battle it out for silverware in the Wexford Senior Hurling Final.

Naomh Eanna for the first time in their club’s history last won the title back in 2018, while Oylegate-Glenbrien’s last appearance in the county senior final was more than 60 years ago. Naomh Eanna also got to the final in 2020, but they lost out to the Shelmaliers in the process.

Ahead of the county final for 2023, the major Irish bookmakers such as PaddyPower and Boylesports have released their odds and they have both tipped one winner.

They are tipping Naomh Eanna as 1/2 favourites, while an Oylegate-Glenbrien win can be secured at a price of 2/1. For those who cannot see many points between them, perhaps a draw at 8/1 could be a good bet.

Neither Naomh Eanna nor Oylegate-Glenbrien were tipped to come through the knock-out stages. Naomh Eanna defeated the Rapparees and St Martins in their previous two games, while Oylegate defeated reigning champions Ferns and then Group A table-toppers St Annes in the semi-final.

Interestingly, neither Oylegate nor Naomh Eanna were favourites to win their respective quarter-final and semi-final pairings which serves to highlight the competitiveness of the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship.

These two sides previously met in Bellefield in one of the opening rounds. Naomh Eanna won that game, but they were helped incredibly by a three-goal blitz directly before half-time, with Oyelgate-Glenbrien looking like the better side before that.

It’ll be interesting to see some of the match-ups for this game. It’s likely that Shane Reck will be on McDonald, Damien Reck could be on Cathal Dunbar, Gorey’s Cian Molloy could be marking the in-form Seamus Casey, while the two big men – Eoin Molloy and Podge Doran will likely be battling it out against each other.

While Naomh Eanna may be the favourites in the bookies’ eyes, Des Mythen’d Oylegate-Glenbrien side will be entering the game with a lot of confidence, knowing full well that they’re not there to make up the numbers and that they could pull this one off.

One thing is for sure: we’re in for a treat with this county final on Sunday.
