A Wexford native has secured a move to a League of Ireland side…
The move, which was confirmed on Friday, will see Paul Murphy return to League of Ireland First Division side, Bray Wanderers.
Murphy has been a rock in the defence for rock for the Gorey Rangers, regularly being mooted as Wexford’s best player. Last year, he picked up an accolade to match this, receiving the Wexford Player of the Year trophy for the 2023 season.
26-year old Murphy was a pivotal player in helping Gorey Rangers lift their first-ever League trophy last season.
It will not be Murphy’s first time playing for the Wicklow side though. He played for the Bray Wanderers u19 squad for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons.
He then appeared on the bench for Bray in their FAI Cup game against Bohs in August 2015. He signed on for the senior squad ahead of the Premier Division campaign in February 2016.
Murphy’s decision to leave will be a huge blow for Gorey Rangers as they set their sights on retaining the Wexford Premier Division trophy. The club stated that their centre-back will be “sorely missed at the club”, but wished him the best of luck.
