Wexford Senior footballers handed major boost ahead of clash against Tipperary

The Wexford Senior footballers have been handed a major boost ahead of their Allianz League clash against Tipperary this weekend…

John Hegarty’s Wexford Senior Footballers take on Tipperary in the Allianz Football League on Saturday.

The clash was originally fixed to take place in Templetuohy in Tipperary. As reported by Tipperary reporter Shane Brophy, the all-weather pitch at Fethard Town Park was also booked as an alternative but neither side keen to play on Astro.

The Templetuohy pitch is also now no longer available. As a result, Tipperary have given up home advantage and they are allowing Wexford to host the match. It is part of a new reciprocal home and away arrangement between the counties.

The match will now take place in St Patrick’s Park in Enniscorthy at 6pm.

The Wexford Senior hurlers will come up against Cork, also at home, on the same day. Wexford GAA have stated that a double header was not possible due to “logistic reasons” and because they want to preserve the pitch, following some adverse weather conditions.

The Wexford Senior footballers currently sit in third position of the Allianz League table and Wexford will be hoping to capitalise on the boost handed to them. A win against Tipperary could set up a final round straight promotion shoot-out between Wexford and Longford in Chadwicks Wexford Park on Sunday March 24th.
