Wexford captain Liam Coleman shares new goal for Wexford Senior football team

The Wexford Senior footballers open up their Leinster Championship campaign tomorrow…

They will take on neighbours, Carlow, in the opening round of the Leinster Senior Football Championship.

A win for Wexford will see them face Louth in the Leinster quarter-final in the next clash due to take place the following weekend.

At the launch of the Leinster Senior Football campaign, Wexford Senior football captain Liam Coleman shared the side’s new goal.

“It was said that a Wexford football team hasn’t been in a Leinster semi-final since 2014, ten years ago. That’s something that was said at the first meeting to us by the management team after we didn’t get promoted, and that’s a goal we’ve set as a team.

“We know that’s going to be difficult. We’ve Carlow this weekend, which is no easy match. We know Carlow very well, which makes it very difficult … I know five weeks ago we won, but that scoreline didn’t reflect how close that game was. And I’ve no doubt they’ll want to right that wrong,” he told Leinster GAA.

Wexford were unfortunate to miss out on promotion to Division 3 of the National Football League after losing out to Leitrim on a Head to Head basis, but it’s clear that they’ve put that past them now.

Wexford, who have named their team, enter the home clash against Carlow as 1/3 favourites to win the game.

Ticket details have been released. Entry to Sunday’s match is by ticket only and tickets are available to purchase online here and in participating SuperValu & Centra Stores.
