Wexford photographers called to enter world’s largest free photo competition

Photo printing specialist CEWE has laid down the gauntlet to photo lovers in Wexford with an invitation to enter the world-renowned CEWE Photo Award…

The photo competition opened for entries on 9 May, 2024.

The CEWE Photo Award is the world’s largest free photography competition, running every two years for one year at a time. The competition is open to photographers of all levels – from smartphone photographers to serious photography enthusiasts – with more than €250,000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Last year’s competition saw a staggering 509,612 photos submitted from people in 147 countries.

A very special launch exhibition on Thursday last saw photographer James Granfield’s stunning shot of puffins on the Great Saltee Islands being recognised in the Animals category while Wexford photographer Jackie Tighe’s work was also on display in the Aerial Photographs category showing the sowing of early carrots. Both pieces were highly complimented.

‘Catch of the Day’ captured by James Grandfield was among many Irish entries to the 2023 CEWE Photo Award competition. Photo printing specialist CEWE is inviting Irish photo lovers to enter the world-renowned CEWE Photo Award, which is free to enter from 9 May.

“We’re really excited to launch the 2024/25 CEWE Photo Award and we hope that Irish photographers and photo lovers will get excited too,” said Steve Manfield, Marketing Director, CEWE Ireland & UK.

“This competition aims to celebrate the art of photography, inspiring photo enthusiasts in Ireland and around the world while showcasing the diverse beauty of our planet,” Mr Manfield said. “We know that Irish people are prolific photo-takers and we want as many as possible to take up this challenge, no matter what their level of expertise is.

“Anyone can enter and everyone who does enter is in with a great chance,” Mr Manfield said. “Even if you finish in 1000th place, you’ll still win a prize!”

“Get inspired by Ireland’s beauty” – Joshua Nueva

CEWE’s Irish ambassador for this year’s competition is Joshua Nueva, the Mayo-based adventure and wildlife photographer who is renowned for capturing the rugged beauty of Ireland’s coastline.

“The CEWE Photo Award is a really cool opportunity for Irish photo enthusiasts to showcase their creativity and natural flair,” said Joshua. “We live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, a tiny green island looking out to sea, surrounded by landscape that stops people in their tracks and makes them reach for their cameras.

“I hope people are inspired by Ireland’s beauty to enter the CEWE Photo Award and I can’t wait to see all the stunning photography the competition produces,” he said.
