Two Wexford hurlers named on GAA’s Hurling Team of the Week

The Wexford Senior hurlers cruised to victory against Carlow on Sunday…

It was described as a potential banana skin for Wexford, with Carlow showing their ability by drawing their previous clash against Kilkenny the previous week.

But Wexford didn’t allow Carlow to get any sniff at the game and Wexford dominated the proceedings. The result cannot be undermined either; Carlow entered the game with plenty of confidence following their draw with Kilkenny the previous week. Likewise, they needed a win in order to avoid a relegation battle with Antrim in Round 5.

Two Wexford hurlers have made it onto this week’s GAA.ie’s Hurling Team of the Week.

They include Naomh Eanna’s Conor McDonald and Faythe Harriers club man Lee Chin.

Both are deserving of their individual accolades. McDonald scored 2-03, all coming from play. To Wexford’s delight, it looks like McDonald is back to his best, performing excellently against Galway too.

Meanwhile, Lee Chin scored 13 points, with 10 of those coming from placed-balls. At the moment, Chin is considered to be one of the players of the championship and he is top of the charts in relation to highest scores in the Championship for 2024.

One player that must consider himself unlucky not to be named on this week’s Team of the Week is St Martins club-man, Rory O’Connor, who hit five points from play and was involved in a lot of Wexford’s positive attacks.

Although it’s great to achieve individual honours like this, the players won’t be too bothered by it. Instead, they’ll be looking forward to an exciting last round clash against Kilkenny. The winner of the Kilkenny and Wexford clash will be through to the Leinster final, while in the other game, the winner of the Dublin vs Galway clash will also be through. It’s shaping up to be a really enthralling encounter. This Sunday, Nowlan Park, you won’t want to miss it.
