Wexford competitor ruled out of the Paris Olympics at last minute

A Wexford man, who was due to compete at the Paris Olympics this Summer, has been ruled out…

Wexford native, Bertram Allen, will no longer be travelling with the Irish Olympic team.

The Paris Olympics for 2024 are due to get underway this Friday, but Wexford man Bertram has been forced to rule himself out at the last minute.

Bertram Allen boasts an impressive equestrian record. The 28-year-old has multiple successes in show jumping for the Irish team and at international level.

Whereas one would think that he suffered an injury, it was in fact his horse – Pacino Amiro – has suffered a minor injury, ruling him out of the upcoming Olympic Games.

“I’m saddened to share that Buddy (Pacino Amiro) has a minor injury and won’t be able to compete in the Paris Olympics. I was so looking forward to our second Olympics together, but Buddy’s recovery is our top priority.”

“I wish the entire Irish team great success in Paris. They’re stronger than ever and ready to achieve amazing things,” said Allen.

Allen was selected as an alternate on the show jumping team that also includes Shane Sweetnam (James Kann Cruz), Daniel Coyle (Legacy) and Cian O’Connor (Maurice).
